Ruinas De Copan

There are a few sites of major importance in Copan ruinas.

The Acropolis - It is divided into two plazas which are the west and the east courts. The west court is the home of Mayan temple 11 built as the portal to the other world and Mayan temple 16 which has an altar at the base. This altar depicts the 16 members of the Copan dynasty.

The Tunnels - 4 tunnels have been dug by the archeologists to make more discoveries, to view, and to study earlier stages of Mayan civilization.

The Ball Court - Considered the social center of the city for the Mayan people and it is one of the largest to be found in central America.

The Hieroglyphic Stairway - This unique temple is one of the most famous monuments and it holds the longest known Mayan text. The carvings on the 63 steps represent five successor to the dynasty.

The Great Plaza - Famous for the stelae and altars that are scattered throughout the immense plaza.

Copan Museum - It is the home of a multitude of artifacts found at the site.
