Sylmar CA - Sylmar is located in the district of San Fernando Valley just north of the city of San Fernando (home of the San Fernando Mission founded by the Spaniards in 1797). Its population is about 69,000 and the city is “clean, comfortable, and calm”. Sylmar is the home of the Los Angeles Mission College which is located right next to the Cariso Park.

El Cariso Community Regional Park stands as a memorial to the young men who lost their lives on the Loop Fire, November 1, 1966, and to those who survived and Firefighters everywhere.

What does the name Sylmar mean or where does it come from? This is what Wikkipedia says, “Sylmar was once the site of the world’s largest olive groves - hence its name, which means ‘Sea of Trees’, from the Latin word for woods (Silva) and the Spanish word for sea (mar).
