There are 32 countries participating in this world cup and they are divided into groups of 4. The teams in each group play three games against each other and the top 2 teams from each group will move to the second round. These three games in the first round can be won or can be tied.

There are 8 games in total in the second round and each game is a must win situation and the 8 winners move to the quarter finals. Once in the quarter finals four teams will be eliminated and will move on to the semi finals. Once in the semifinals, two teams will be eliminated. The two losing teams will play for third place and the two winning teams will dispute the cup.
